Bachelor Nation had a crazy night on Monday since The Bachelor’s season finale did not end in an engagement. Matt James has second thoughts about proposing to either Michelle Young or Rachael Kirkconnell at the start of the show. Matt eventually admitted to Michelle that he was having doubts and that he didn’t think he’d be able to “get there” with her. Michelle was angry and crying in her room after Matt left. “My goal tonight wasn’t to hurt Michelle,” Matt said, “it was, to be honest with her, and that’s something I owe her.”
Matt was chastised on Twitter almost instantly for his decision.
Matt was also contemplating whether or not he should propose to someone at the end. He didn’t get down on one knee in front of Rachael, even though he chose a ring with Neil Lane. Matt told her, as they stood together, holding hands, “I’m afraid I won’t be able to make a proposal to you today. That isn’t to suggest I don’t want to lose you. ” As a result, the season ended with the two in a seemingly happy relationship, and viewers were less than pleased with Matt’s choice of Rachael.
We heard that things had changed during The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, which was hosted by Emmanuel Acho due to Chris Harrison’s departure over racially offensive remarks made while defending Rachael.
After photographs of Rachael attending an Antebellum-themed party in 2018 surfaced, Matt announced he had ended the relationship. Matt explained that he wanted to overlook it at first. Matt told Emmanuel, “I dismissed them as rumours because that’s what they were to me.” “You hear stories that break your heart… and all you can do is hope they aren’t real. And you find out they’re not… it makes you doubt everything. “
Matt was then able to approach Rachael and justify why they were no longer together.
Matt explained to Rachael, “When I questioned our relationship, it was in the sense of you not completely knowing my blackness and what it means to be a black man in America.” “It hurt my heart because this was supposed to be the last conversation we’d have. I didn’t sign up for this discussion. “
Throughout the special, Rachael expressed regret and stated that she was attempting to become more culturally sensitive. She also admitted that her mistakes were induced by ignorance rather than malice. “I see someone who was living in this ignorance without really, like, caring about who it would hurt,” Rachael said when asked about her photos from the party.
Although Rachael claimed that she is committed to self-education, Matt insisted that she would have to do so on her own.
“I had to take a step back to encourage you to do the work you outlined, and that’s something you have to do on your own, which is why we can’t be in a relationship,” Matt explained. “I don’t want to be personally responsible for those tears, because the work and redemption that needs to be done is work that I can’t do for you,” she says.
Bachelor Nation, unsurprisingly, had some thoughts on the topic as well.
But it seemed that Acho was the true star of the show. Viewers responded favourably to the former NFL linebacker on social media, and he could be given a more permanent hosting position with the team.
