According to a report, rapper DMX was hospitalised in critical condition Saturday following a drug overdose in his Westchester County home.
TMZ reported that the 50-year-old hip hop artist and “Romeo Must Die” actor was rushed to a critical care unit at White Plains Hospital shortly after 11 p.m. Friday.
According to TMZ, the singer of “Party Up (Up In Here)” was exhibiting “some brain activity” but was in a “vegetative state.”
Fans expressed concern after Eric B. of the rap duo Eric B. & Rakim shared an Instagram photo of himself and DMX with the caption, “Please pray for my brother DMX,” and the hashtag # DMX hospitalized.
“Prayers up for DMX the legend, let’s put that in the sky,” Rick Ross said on Instagram.
DMX, real name Earl Simmons, has been battling drug addiction for years and recently cancelled a performance at CitiField’s Rolling Loud Music Festival and entered rehab.
He also missed a gig in Brooklyn, it was reported at the time, where he was scheduled to perform for Def Jam’s 35th anniversary.
According to TMZ, the rapper previously checked into rehab in 2017, cancelling shows at the time.
In January 2019, DMX was released from prison after serving time for tax evasion.
Despite the pandemic, DMX has been performing modestly this year and was reportedly planning a small tour of Indianapolis and Texas in May, according to his Instagram page.
