LENNOX, California, USA LENNOX, California. A 4.0 earthquake in the vicinity of Lennox hit the area approximately 30 minutes after a magnitude 3.3 shake parts of southern California on Monday.

Minutes later, less than 1 mile northwest of Lennox, the 2.5 magnitude aftershock was recorded.

Three earthquakes struck Southern Los Angeles in the span of half an hour, causing thousands of residents to report shaking beds and even cracking walls.

A preliminary 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck 12 miles under the surface first, followed by a smaller one a minute later. These seem to have been precursors to the much larger 4.0 magnitude quake that struck 12 miles under the surface at the oddly triple-digit time of 4:44 a.m., according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

Englewood, with a population of 111,700 people, was just one mile from the epicentre, and Los Angeles (population 4 million) was just nine miles away. Nearly 2000 records were obtained by our monitoring service from concerned users of our website and app, with feedback ranging from “a personal thunderstorm in my bedroom” and “walls creaking” to “felt like a sonic boom” and “sounded like a blast.”

While it was clear from the feedback that the quake was powerful, we were fortunate not receiving any reports of injury or severe damage.

There have been over 20 smaller tremors of 4.0 magnitude, including a magnitude 2.4 snapshot centered near Inglewood.

People reporting that the biggest earthquake filled the ABC7 newsroom rapidly with people saying that the tremor had shocked their area as far as Palmdale and Laguna Niguel. The 3.3-magnitude tremor was felt in accordance with USGS from South Bay to the Montebello district and Burbank district.

No immediate damage or injury reports were reported.

Earthquake Details

The United States (USA) Geological Survey confirmed that a magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck 1 mile southeast of Inglewood, California, just 10 minutes ago.
The earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 12 miles beneath the epicenter near Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California, USA, at 4:44 a.m. local time on Monday, April 5, 2021. As geologists review data and refine their estimates, or as other agencies issue their reports, the exact magnitude, heartland, and depth of the quake can be revised in the coming hours or minutes.

Our monitoring system discovered a second study from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) that placed the quake’s magnitude at 4.0.
The quake should not have caused any major damage, according to preliminary seismic data, but it was likely felt by many people in the epicenter area as a mild vibration.

Weak shaking was possibly felt in Lennox (population 22,800) 1 mile from the epicenter, Inglewood (population 111,700) 1 mile away, Hawthorne (population 88,500) 2 miles away, Gardena (population 60,400) 4 miles away, and South Gate (population 60,400) 4 miles away (pop. 96,400) Torrance (population 148,500) is eight miles away, Compton (population 98,500) is eight miles away, Koreatown (population 124,300) is eight miles away, and Los Angeles (population 3,971,900) is nine miles away.
