Entertainment Blizzard. Blizzard addressed a new leadership in the project in a post on the official Overwatch website, whereas Jeff Kaplan released a personal statement about his time at the company.
Kaplan’s Statement
“After 19 awesome years, I leave Blizzard Entertainment,” Jeff Kaplan said. “The opportunity to build worlds and heroes for so passionate audiences was really an honour of a lifetime. I want to express my deep appreciation to all at Blizzard who supported our games, our game teams and our players. I want to thank the great game developers who shared in creating a new game with me in a special way.
Naturally, Jeff Kaplan is a beloved source of information, debate and many other things in the Overwatch Community. However, his long career on Blizzard has covered several titles, including the other title of the company: World of Warcraft. He also worked on Warcraft 3 and the ill-fated Titan, together with these two games, and was overviewed.
The managing director of Overwatch 2 will be Aaron Keller, who has a long history at the Blizzard and who is a key developer for the creation of Overwight. In the post, Keller talked about Kaplan’s departure and Overwatch’s future.
More about Jeff Kaplan
“Jeff Kaplan was a great leader, mentor, friend and he knows how many of us will miss him. He knows. I’ve been fortunate in building something that inspires people all over the world over several years together with him and the rest of the Overwatch team and I am honoured to carry it forward.
“Overwatch, I love. The first time I could run around as Tracer, which in that early period picked laser beams out of her eyes, this game clicked with me, from our first pieces of Concept art to the first maps we made. I love his beautiful and inspiring world worth striving for. I love its characters—more than life, colourful, mighty and comprehensive. And above all I love fast and fluid gaming that requires teamwork, awareness of the situation and fast decision-making.
“I also recognise that playing Blizzard games was always a collective task and never a single viewpoint. Along with the rest of the team, I am happy to have a deep bench of development and creative leaders, many veteran Blizzard artists and designers and some very talented new blood alongside tonnes of support for live play and Overwatch 2 across the company. While I have no claim to fill Jeff’s shoes, I am excited to take on the role of game director and keep playing part in a team that puts all of its hearts, talents and focus on the next iteration of Overwatch.”
Overwatch 2 has been developed, according to Keller “The team has “exciting disclosures planned this year and beyond,” continuing in a good pace.” We will share with you very soon more frequent updates on progress of Overwatch 2 and new features in the live game.”
