Tiger Woods, the all-time golfing great was seriously injured in a solo crash on Feb. 23 south of Los Angeles.
When Tigen Woods crashed in Southern California in February, at least two times the speed limit—84 mph in the 45 mph zone — it did not show any signs of impairment and will not face charges, the authorities said on Wednesday.
Sheriff Alex Villanuevo told reporters on Feb 23, the Tiger Woods Genesis GV80 SUV travelled 84 mph to 87 mph when it crashed in Rolling Hills Estates, a scenic, prosperous suburban area in the southern Los Angeles area.
Villanueva said the principal reason for the accident was “the speed at which the road conditions were unsafe and the road curve could not negotiate.”
Woods, 45 years old, continued to be about 75 minutes as it hit the tree, sending its SUV in the air.
Vehicle Impact was pretty strong
“The vehicle’s impact, when it hit the tree, caused the vehicle to go on air and land on its side somewhat (from a) pyrouette,” said Capt. James Powers.
Tiger Woods‘s SUV was travelling at up to 87 miles (140 kilometers) an hour before it flew off the road and flipped several times during the Accident in Ranchos Palos Verdes, leaving a shattered right leg to the 15-time major champion.
Statements from officials
“The main cause of this traffic collision was driving at a speed that was insecure for road conditions and unable to negotiate the road curve,” said Alex Villanueva.
“Expected speeds were 84 to 87 miles per hour at the first area of impact.”
“There were no sign of impairment” or “distracted driving” evidence and Woods voluntarily allowed the investigation results to be made public, officials said.
Captain James Powers said that Woods himself may inadvertently have hit the accelerator of the car while trying to pressure the brakes when it lost control, though Woods himself did not recall the incident.
Investigators have not checked Woods telephone or tested its bloodwork because “no evidence of any damage or intoxication existed,” said Powers at a press release.
The golfer has had hours of surgery to fix his shattered right lower leg and ankle, including the insertion of a rod into his shingle and screws and pins for stabilising the joint.
He’s recovering in his Florida home now.
Woods, whose 82 US PGA titles have a record all time with Sam Snead, won the Masters 2019 for its first major title in 11 years to achieve an amazing comeback following multiple back surgeries.
