Sony has announced its first new colours for the DualSense Controller of PlayStation 5: a ‘cosmic red’ model that features a red and black two-tone design and an all-black “midnight black” version that reflects classical PS2, PS3 and PS4 designs.
Sony has only offered the DualSense controller in a black and white colour scheme to match the PS5 (which has a similar opposite theme), so the new colour options are definitely welcome.
The black midnight option is especially striking: the white DualSense was a major start for the design of Sony that tended predominantly to the black and grey consoles and controllers throughout the life of the PlayStation brand by default. The new black option (a two-tone design technically yet, with two different colours of black) is however closer to the other controllers.
Sony Announces New Design
At the moment, Sony has only announced new colours for the controller, although the console PlayStation 5 has removable face plate features, so it may take some time for the company to introduce PS5 matching panels. However, enterprises such as Dbrand have already begun to fill this gap with their own third-party options.
The two new colour schemes should be available to buy next month (Sony says that dates will be dependent on individual retailers). Pricing has not yet been announced, but the standard DualSense controller costs $69.99 for reference.
Of course, all this assumes that you can find a PS5 first—which Sony admits could be hard to do until 2022.
