The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 29 new Covid-19 deaths and 1,602 new positive cases on Saturday.
While Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths have been decreasing recently, the figures released today may reflect weekend reporting delays. With today’s figures, the County now has a total of 25,999 deaths and 1,452,998 positive cases.At the time of writing, 947 County residents were hospitalised due to Covid-19. More than 8,564,000 people have now received their test results, with 16% testing positive. The daily test positivity rate today is 1.3 percent. People over the age of 80 accounted for eight of today’s new deaths.
Five of those who died were between the ages of 65 and 79; nine were between the ages of 50 and 64, two between the ages of 30 and 49, and two between the ages of 18 and 29. The city of Long Beach was responsible for three of the deaths reported today.On Saturday, the Department of Public Health announced that 68 percent of residents aged 12 and up have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
At the same time, they emphasised the importance of continuing to raise vaccination rates in order to reduce the possibility of new Covid outbreaks and the emergence of more infectious variants, such as Delta.“While we are making significant progress in reducing COVID-19 community spread, we cannot afford to be complacent given the very real risks posed by this virus,” said Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.
“We must continue to reduce the number of new cases so that we can enter the fall and winter seasons in the best possible shape to avoid the devastation we experienced last year.”Covid vaccines are still available to anyone aged 12 and up who lives or works in Los Angeles County.
