A female suspect has been arrested in connection with two shooting incidents in Atlanta that killed two people and injured another.
The afternoon Midtown attacks froze the city, as officials feared a lone gunman was loose in the city’s core. However, late-afternoon police reports indicated that these were specifically targeted attacks.
“At this time, you are safe,” Mayor Andre Dickens told reporters. “The person responsible for this has been apprehended, and life has returned to normal,” the narrator says.
According to interim Atlanta Police Department Chief Darin Schierbaum, who spoke at a press conference, the suspect was apprehended without incident at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 4:00 p.m.
Following further investigation, police identified the suspect as Raissa Kengne, 34. Authorities say she faces two counts of murder, four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and false imprisonment. She was also charged with carrying a weapon while engaging in criminal activity. On Tuesday, she appeared in court, where the judge denied her bond request.
The police have confirmed that the woman worked at one of the shooting locations and have stated that they are looking into any possible link she may have had to the address.
Authorities, according to Schierbaum, do not consider these incidents to be random acts of violence. We have evidence that these individuals were the intended victims.
Wesley Freeman, 41, and Michael Shinners, 60, were the two people killed in the shooting, according to the Fulton County medical examiner’s office.
According to the interim chief, shots were fired and a possible victim was struck at 1280 West Peachtree Street in Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood at 1:46 p.m.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers arrived to find two victims of gun violence, one of whom had died and the other had been taken to the hospital. At the time, the condition of the sole survivor was unknown.
