ATLANTA (AP) — ATLANTA Georgia’s health officials stop Johnson & Johnson vaccinations temporarily at one site in northern Georgia on Wednesday after eight people had “adverse reactions.”
With new U.S. coronaviruses increasingly common — almost 80,000 newly reported infections on Thursday — health officials warn about multiple, more transmissible variants, some of which have been spreading outbreaks in Michigan and California.
New data on emerging variants including the first identified variants in Brazil, Britain and South Africa have been released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday. The variant B.1.1.7 initially found in the UK accounts for nearly 20,000 cases in every 50 countries—and has become the dominant strain, officials say.
However, for the first time, the P.1 variant originating in Brazil took No. 2 spot. The variant that devastated Brazil, the largest number of cases found in Massachusetts, Illinois and Florida, has infected at least 434 in the USA.
3 States Reported Negative Effects of the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine
At least three other states—North Carolina, Iowa and Colorado—reported negative effects of individuals who were vaccinated at certain locations by Johnson & Johnson.
One of eight people at Cumming, Georgia, were tested and Johnson and Johnson released at a hospital, the Georgia Public Health Department said on Friday. The others were checked and sent home.
Statements
Many people fainted in North Carolina after receiving the vaccine, health officials said. Fainting is also a reaction in Georgia, Nancy Nydum, Georgia Ministry of Public Health’s spokeswoman, said.
The vaccines are being stopped “out of caution” in Georgia, health officials said in a declaration.
There’s no reason to believe there is anything wrong with the vaccine, and people who have received it should not be concerned, said Dr. Kathleen Toomey, Georgia’s health commissioner.
The agency examines the causes of reactions, ‘including the conditions at the trade fairs such as heat and the possibility of keeping the place cool,’ said Toomey.
Health officials stated that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigates incidents in Georgia, Iowa, Colorado and North Carolina.
The Cumming area of Georgia is about 40 miles north-east of Atlanta.
In Georgia, over 4.5 million vaccines have been given, health officials said Friday. Approximately 80% of senior people in Georgia received at least one dose, they said.
