Heavy rain forced the NASCAR round this weekend in Martinsville to be postponed for the second day in a row, with the Cup series race stopped after 42 laps.
Due to persistent rain showers and thunderstorms, Saturday night’s Cup race was stopped after 42 laps and has been postponed until 4pm local time on Sunday.
Denny Hamlin led the race, followed by Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Martin Truex Jr and Chase Elliott when it stopped.
The latest schedule changes have resulted in a shift in the NASCAR programme for this weekend, with the rest of the Xfinity Series race on Sunday at 12 p.m. local time. The race was stopped on Friday night due to the rain 29 laps before the finish of stage 2.
Brandon Jones was the leader, then Josh Berry, Daniel Hemric, Brett Moffitt and Jeb Burton when the Xfinity Series race stopped.
During a Cup race check on Saturday afternoon, the crew leader of Daniel Suarez, Travis Mack, was thrown out of the track after the Suarez ballast was found outside the approved container.
The team also lost ten drivers and owners and Suarez had to start in the back of the field.
And Tyler Reddick for unapproved Chevrolet adjustments.
Delayed start in NASCAR
NASCAR started the race after a long delay, although the bad weather remained in the area. Hamlin took an early lead from Logano and went so far as James Davison turned 4, which cautioned. During the warning, rain took off and NASCAR eventually postponed the rest of the race to be finished on Sunday.
