Following allegations of misconduct from a variety of sources, several companies have linked David Dobrik and his content-creation collective, known as the Vlog Squad, to YouTuber.
On March 16, Business Insider published an interview with an anonymous woman who claimed to have appeared in a Vlog Squad video at the end of 2018.
The wife claimed David Dobrik filmed her in a bedroom while she was in a threesome with former Vlog Squad member Dom Zeglaitis, also known as Durte Dom. She claimed that she was too drunk to give her approval at the time, and Zeglaitis claimed that she raped her.
A video that was uploaded to Dobrik’s YouTube channel a few days after the alleged incident occurred, but was removed after Zeglaitis contacted the woman and requested that it be removed.
Over the weekend, brands such as DoorDash, HelloFresh, and EA Sports issued statements condemning the Vlog Squad’s alleged activities and announcing that they would no longer work with them.
According to a spokesperson for Dollar Shave Club, “the company has decided to put an end to our relationship and cancel all planned activities.”
SeatGeek also stated that he “reviewed” his relationship with David Dobrik and his channel.
On Sunday, David Dobrik announced that he would resign from the Dispo board of directors and leave the company in order “not to distract from the company’s growth.”
Last week, users bombarded David Dobrik and the Vlog Squad with one-star reviews, resulting in Dispo receiving less than two stars in the Apple App Store. Spark Capital, an investor, announced in a series of tweets a few hours before Dobrik’s demise that, in light of recent news, they would “sever any ties” with the company.
The insider’s investigation was made public in a video posted to his podcast channel on the same day the 24-year-old addressed the allegations and stated that he “does not stand for any wrongdoing.”
“Consent is something that’s super, super important to me,” Dobrik said in the video. “Whether I’m shooting with a friend or shooting with an alien, I always make sure I have that person’s approval, regardless of the video that I put out.” “
He went on to say that if anyone involved in a video withdraws their consent after filming or uploading, the video will be deleted immediately.
“There were also times when I looked back at videos and realised that they didn’t represent me anymore,” Dobrik continued, “It hurts others, I don’t want them because I’ve grown up as a content creator and a person and I’m not in agreement with the videos that I’ve posted.”
Dobrik then apologised directly to former Vlog Squad member Joseth Francois — known as Seth — who told BuzzFeed News in February that he was sexually assaulted in one of Dobrik’s “trank” videos.
Francois recalled an incident in 2017 in which Dobrik duped him into joining Vlog Squad member Jason Nash by pretending to be a woman.
He told BuzzFeed News that he didn’t agree with the kiss and felt it was “false,” and that when he confronted Dobrik and Nash, they gave him money to keep the video on the channel.
“If they don’t know what’s wrong and don’t know what they’ve done is wrong, it still makes me think it could happen,” Francois said, “or maybe other people who are afraid of speaking up have happened.”
Dobrik apologised in a video last week, saying, “I’m sorry to Seth.”
“I just want to make videos where everyone has a good time, whether they participate or watch,” he said, adding, “With that one, I missed the mark, and I’m so sorry.” I truly, truly, truly am. “
He went on to say that he “distanced himself” from former friends who “deceived him,” including Dom Zeglaitis.
“I chose to distance myself from people I’m no longer filming with — like Dom and others I don’t film with — because I don’t agree with some of their actions, and I won’t stand for any misconduct,” Dobrik explained.
“Some of my friends really disappointed me,” he continued, “and I’ve separated from a lot of them as a result.”
