House Republican chief Kevin McCarthy is slated to meet with former President Donald Trump on Thursday because the lawmaker is considering which Republicans to appoint to a special committee tasked with investigating the Jan. 6 rebellion on the Capitol.
Trump announced he could be in an assembly with the California congressman, but did not specify what would be on the timetable.
“Kevin McCarthy will be meeting with me this afternoon at Trump countrywide in Bedminster, N.J. A whole lot to discuss!” Trump stated in an announcement.
Under the regulations developed by the commission, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is allowed to call eight individuals to the committee and McCarthy may also call five. However, McCarthy has yet to decide whether or not he will appoint any contributors to the panel.
Pelosi introduced her choices last week, which blanketed Reps. Jamie Raskin and Adam Schiff, and McCarthy became quick to criticize them.
“putting Adam Schiff and Raskin on it looks more like an impeachment committee than one that wants to get to the bottom of the questions which might be still obtainable,” McCarthy told Fox information.
McCarthy said that he hadn’t made his selections yet, “even to employ,” and was “discussing it with my members.”
“I have a real subject, the scope of what we are searching for,” he delivered.
The committee scheduled its first listening session for Tuesday.
