Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical Is Making Its Way To Broadway Via San Diego.

The Old Globe will host the World Premiere of Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical, which will be produced for Broadway by Yash Raj Films, India’s largest film studio. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ, as it is known in India) will be adapted for the Broadway stage by the studio. Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical will make its San Diego debut from September 1 to October 16, 2022, with the official opening on September 14.

The Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, will host the limited engagement. Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical tells the storey of Simran, a young Indian-American woman whose future is predetermined: an arranged marriage to a family friend back in India. When she persuades her strict father that she should spend a summer of freedom and fun in Europe, she falls for the charming Rog, and her careful, logical plans are thrown out the window. Can she be true to her heritage and her heart at the same time? Can Rog, a free-spirited American, win over her traditional father? In the stage musical adaptation of the beloved hit romantic comedy film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, cultures collide from Boston to Europe to India.

The family-owned Yash Raj Films is India’s largest film studio, producing some of the country’s biggest blockbusters. He returns to directing for the studio’s 50th anniversary, led by Aditya Chopra. DDLJ was Chopra’s directorial debut, and the historic romantic film is one of the highest grossing films in India’s rich and diverse film industry’s history.The creative team will include artists from India and the United States.

The musical, based on Chopra’s original storey, will have a book and lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, Mean Girls), and top Indian songwriters Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani will serve as composers. Tony and Emmy winner Rob Ashford (Frozen, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Boys from Syracuse) will choreograph alongside Shruti Merchant as an associate choreographer. Set design by Emmy and Tony Award winner Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge!, Hairspray Live!, 33 Variations) and music supervision by Bill Sherman will also be part of the design team. A global casting search will soon begin, led by Duncan Stewart of Stewart/Whitley casting and Shanoo Sharma of Yash Raj Films.
