After five seasons, Damian Lewis is leaving Billions.On the Showtime series, Lewis portrayed Bobby Axelrod, aka Axe, in the season five finale, which aired Sunday night.Season six of Showtime will premiere on January 23rd, and a trailer has been released (watch it below). The announcement comes exactly a year after the network announced the sixth-season renewal.
Season six will see the return of Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll, and Maggie Siff, as well as Daniel Breaker (Girls5eva), who plays Scooter, Michael Prince’s (Stoll) chief of staff.According to the network, Axe will be replaced by Michael Prince in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Chuck (Giamatti) must devise a new strategy that is sharper and more sophisticated than the one he previously employed. To survive, all of the characters — Wags (David Costabile), Wendy (Siff), Taylor (Asia Kate Dillon), Sacker (Condola Rashad), and Senior (Jeffrey DeMunn) — must “sharpen their weapons and seek new alliances.”Stoll appeared as a guest star on the show in season five as a new threat to Axe.
Last year, Showtime announced that he had been promoted to regular for season six.It’s not the first time Lewis has left a Showtime series during its run. After three seasons on the network’s Homeland, he left in 2013.
