Pfizer is recalling all batches of an anti-smoking medication due to the presence of a carcinogen.

Pfizer Inc announced on Thursday that it was recalling all lots of its anti-smoking medication, Chantix, due to high levels of cancer-causing substances known as nitrosamines in the drugs.

The drugmaker paused distribution of the drug in June, and has already recalled some of the drugs so far.

Pfizer requested wholesalers and vendors on Thursday to prevent the use and distribution of the tablets right away.

The business enterprise stated there was no instantaneous hazard to patients.

They did, however, recommend that they discuss it with their health care provider in order to test the availability of opportunity treatments.

Chantix was accepted by the FDA in May 2006 as a prescription remedy to assist adults aged 18 and over to cease smoking, and it is commonly used for 12 to 24 weeks.
