Kim Cattrall was “never” involved in the revival of Sex and the City. The 65-year-old actress, who played promiscuous PR Samantha Jones on the hit comedy-drama series and its two spin-off films, was not going to be involved with HBO Max’s And Just Like That… because she was hesitant to continue playing the character.”
And Just Like That… was never four [characters],” showrunner Michael Patrick King explained. Kim Cattrall, for whatever reason, didn’t want to play Samantha anymore while we were working on the [third] film, so it was never on the radar as a four.
“However, the 67-year-old screenwriter was quick to dismiss any notion that Samantha is truly gone, despite the fact that she will not be seen alongside Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) in the upcoming reboot. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he added, “Oh, there’s a hole I have to fill,” referring to Cattrall’s absence. Samantha doesn’t exist in their world. These three characters gave birth to [And Just Like That]: What is their lifelike, and who can I bring in to help me understand it?”The original series, which aired from 1998 to 2004, spawned two spin-off films, and a third was in the works but was canceled after Kim lost interest in the project.
She stated on Instagram at the time, “I can’t [do it].” My heart is no longer in it. Sam has taught me so much. She was my hero, but I need to rest and stop working as much as I have for years. I’d like to live a less hectic life. My decision reflects where I am in my life, and I can’t change it unless I’m unhappy. “I’m hoping you understand.”Sam and co-star Sarah Jessica have had a long-running feud.
Kim first made public her feud with the Failure to Launch star four years ago, when she insisted that she was not “friends” with any of her Sex and the City co-stars. She also chastised Sarah Jessica for contacting her after the death of her brother Chris Cattrall in February 2018.
