Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a leading actress in India, has joined the cast of the feature film “Arrangements of Love.”BAFTA-winning Welsh director Philip John, whose credits include “Downton Abbey” and “The Good Karma Hospital,” will direct the film.
Sunitha Tati’s Indian production company Guru Films is behind the film, which follows the commercial success of “Oh! Baby,” a 2019 Telugu-language adaptation of the 2014 Korean film “Miss Granny.” Samantha, who is only known by her first name, appeared in “Oh! Baby.”The actor received critical acclaim for her antagonist role in the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s “Family Man,” which debuted earlier this year.
Samantha has worked in both the Telugu and Tamil film industries, and her credits include S.S. Rajamouli’s “Eega,” “Super Deluxe,” “Janatha Garage,” and “Mersal.”Executive producer Samir Sarkar of Singapore’s Magic Hour Films has joined the project. Sarkar previously produced “Nasir,” a Rotterdam winner, “Jonaki,” a Mumbai winner, and “The False Eye,” a Kolkata and Indian National Film Award winner.
‘Arrangements of Love’ is an adaptation of Indian author Timeri N. Murari’s bestselling 2004 novel of the same name (“The Taliban Cricket Club”) by John and British Sri Lankan actor Nimmi Harasgama, who played the female lead in Deepa Mehta’s “Funny Boy” and is a series regular on “The Good Karma Hospital.”It follows a Welsh-Indian man on an impromptu trip to his homeland in search of his estranged father.
Samantha plays a 27-year-old strong-willed and funny force of nature who runs her own detective agency and becomes involved in the investigation. She is a progressive bisexual Tamil woman with ultra-traditional parents who want an arranged marriage for her. She wants to be able to make her own life decisions as much as she wants to please her parents. “Having Samantha on board is truly fortuitous.
“I’ve previously worked with her and must say that she always brings her curiosity and talent to the project,” Tati told Variety. “I can already see the life she’ll breathe into the character.” It’s a pleasure to collaborate with her again as we navigate international waters together.” “Arrangements of Love” was the only Asian project chosen for the Toronto International Financing Forum, which runs concurrently with the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is scheduled to begin production in August 2022.
