(KRON) – SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – A plastic surgeon in San Francisco is leading an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and provide hope and guidance to patients.
According to Dr. Karen Horton, many breast cancer patients are unaware of their options after being diagnosed or are unable to afford reconstructive surgery. This benefit is intended to assist those women.
“Breast reconstruction is critical. It’s such an important journey or part of the journey for women facing breast cancer, because when a breast, um, has to be removed, either the entire breast, meaning a mastectomy for breast cancer, or part of the breast, meaning a lumpectomy, we really want to help restore the breast form,” Dr. Karen Horton explained. “We are hosting a virtual fashion show in which two of my patients model a beautiful lingerie line designed for women who are dealing with changes in their bodies, such as breast cancer. Ever Violet is the name of the line, which was created by a breast cancer survivor. Kira Kotler is her name,” Horton continued. “Assisting a woman in maintaining her sense of femininity by allowing her to wear clothes and, you know, flood a bathing suit.
And for women who have already lost a breast, restoring the breast form has incalculable benefits. It simply makes them feel whole again. And it allows them to move on as much as possible after being diagnosed with breast cancer.”The Bra Benefit fundraiser will run throughout the month of October.
